“Every Child Deserves a Little Christmas”

The U.S Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program was established in 1947 by Major Bill Hendricks and his wife. Major Bill Hendrick’s wife made a doll and asked her husband to deliver it to an organization that would present it to a less fortunate child on Christmas Day. Major Hendricks could find no agency to fill that void. Major Hendricks and members of his Los Angeles Marine Reserve Unit collected and distributed 5,000 toys to needy children in Los Angeles on Christmas Day in 1947. The seed had been planted and Toys for Tots was born. The following year the United States Marine Corps Reserve adopted the program and has been bringing a smile to kids’ faces across the nation since.
